Gwynn Oak resident Malik Anthony Carr, 27, and Markell Armon Carr, 25, of Baltimore, were both taken into custody for their alleged roles in the assault of city resident Brian Keith Whittington on Tuesday morning.

According to the Anne Arundel County Police Department, at around 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 16, officers responded to a reported assault in the area of West Nursery Road and Andover Road, where witnesses reported that two men - later identified as the Carrs - were assaulting a third person outside of a 2016 Dodge Dart with a "wooden object."

The suspects alleged that Whittington, a 26-year-old Baltimore resident, had stolen items from them and they were attempting to get their property back, further claiming that he was the one who swung the axe handle at them.

However, that was quickly debunked.

Police say that a witness stated the suspects assaulted the victim, striking him with the axe handle - which was recovered at the scene - and kicking him while he was lying on the ground.

During a search of Malik Carr, officers found drugs on him that were packaged to be distributed, according to police, leading to the seizure of:

  • 34 flip-top containers containing approximately 18.66 grams of suspected cocaine, heroin/fentanyl or combination;
  • Three capsules containing 1.23 grams of suspected cocaine, heroin/fentanyl or combination;
  • Two clear plastic bags containing approximately 1.64 grams of suspected cocaine, heroin/fentanyl or combination.

They now face assault and drug charges.

The person who was assaulted was taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. It was later determined that the car he was driving had been reported stolen, and he too is facing charges.
